NGU Social 1st team

The Social 1st Team are now in our 4th season in The Middlesex County League with the reserves entering their 3rd season.

The story of last year was that both teams last year were able to consolidate their positions in stronger leagues. The 1st team played in Division 1 and the reserves in the Senior Reserve Division. We both finished mid-table in our respective leagues and had moderate cup runs (although we have learnt a lesson and this is to check opponents’ cards!!).

The strength in depth of the club was tested last year and we had over 65 players registered to play and many youth players were able to play a part in the latter part of the season. Hopefully the percentage of youth players will increase again during the 06/07 season and this will be a theme all the way through North Greenford Utd.

After consolidating last year this will the year to push forward again and for the 1st Team to regain it’s position on the Middlesex Premier League where our current North Greenford Utd Team(now playing in Combined Counties) were playing 5 years ago! This can be achieved by a combination of utilising the youth system, old heads (Benson still won’t get the message!) and new additions to the squad despite the efforts of one of our old managers to take them!

On a sad note we will need to at least 5 new additions to replace one of the best midfielders to grace the hallowed turf at North Greenford who has retired due to having a bionic knee rebuilt! No doubt people will want to buy this MOM a retirement drink or 2!!

Finally the management team of the Social 1st Team will be boosted by the addition of Mr Duffy as coach / jugs enforcer and the reserves will continue with John Lacey and Tony Tuohy

Neil Wood - Manager
