CLUB HISTORY |
The club was founded in September 1944, by the late Mr.A Timpson as a youth team. The 1944/45 season was their first and several friendly matches were played against local opposition. The following season saw the foundation of the Ealing Youth League, with Mr Timpson as a co-founder of the league, entering North Greenford as founder members. In May 1946, North Greenford were crowned as the first champions of the Ealing Youth League. The following season saw the formation of a senior side and they were entered into the Hanwell and District League, finishing runners up to St Aidens. 1947 saw the club make their first Cup Final appearance against Botwell Wanderers in the Hanwell Hospital Cup.
In 1947/48 the club entered the Harrow Wembley League and in 1954/55 they were champions of the Senior Division of that competition. 1956.57 saw North Greenford reach the final of the Middlesex Junior Cup as well as winning the Harrow Wembley League Senior Cup. In 1960 they won the Richmond Challenge Cup and were finalists in the Brentford League Senior Cup, a trophy they also won in 1962 and 1964. In 1965 the Harrow Senior Charity Cup was won, with another final appearance a year later in the Brentford League Cup.
More success followed in 1967, when North Greenford won the West London Combination Cup, a feat they repeated in 1968. 1969 and 1970 saw the Kings College Hospital Cup won twice, while in 1971, more honours came with the winning of the Hounslow Senior Charity Cup. 1973 saw the club reach the final of the Hounslow Senior Charity Cup once more, but in 1974 County Honours were achieved when winning the Middlesex Intermediate Cup.
In 1982/83 North Greenford won the Middlesex League and in May 1983, promotion was gained to the Spartan League. 1984 was a mixed year for the club, with the death of the founder Alf Timpson at the age of 87, tempered by the granting of Senior status by the Middlesex County Football Association. The Harry Sutherland Shield was won in both 1985 and 1986 before the club achieved promotion into the Premier Division of the Spartan League in 1988/89.
In 1994 the club celebrated its 50th Anniversary, but the 1994/95 season saw the club resign from the London Spartan League, to rejoin the Premier Division of the Middlesex County Football League. In 1995 the club were re-classified as having Intermediate status by Middlesex County Football Association. In 1996 John Bivens (Senior) and John Bignell of North Greenford were honoured by the Football Association, with a medallion and letter of commendation from Chief Executive Graham Kelly, for 50 years service to Association Football.
The club was keen to regain Senior status and undertook a long term project to achieve this. During this rebuilding period, Barbara Bivens won the Secretary of the Year award from the MCFA in 2001. Ground improvements continued to be made, including the installation of floodlights at Berkeley Fields for the first time and in 2002, Senior Status was regained. The year 2002 was also memorable, as North Greenford were elected to the Combined Counties Football League to round off the achievements made by all concerned at the club. In season 2003/2004 we came runners up in the Premier Challege Cup losing 4-1 to AFC Wimbledon in front of a crowd of over 5,000 at Woking FC. In season 2004-2005 we were runners up to Walton Casuals in the Premier league. In November 2005 Sam Hurrell from the Under 18 Allied Counties Youth team won a contract with Chelsea FC after winning the Sky TV Football Icon competition.
